Bald Eagles at Starved Rock

Hi all, hope everyone had a Happy New Year! I've been MIA for many reasons. My classes resumed yesterday, so once again, I'll be hiding in the books. I missed seeing the inauguration live by being in class, but that didn't spoil my fab mood at all! Today is my only day off this week, and we finally got up to 30 degree temps, so the hubby & I bundled up & made the 1.5 hour ride to Starved Rock State Park to see if we'd see the wintering eagles. We did! First time of course. They are amazing, I was in awe. I also saw for the first time: a titmouse, red-bellied woodpecker (both a M & F), & nuthatches. I saw a few others that I am still trying to ID (could take some time, I've asked for help below on 2). We had a great time out there today, I worked most of my so-called break & this weather has been insane, so it was really nice to squeeze in a fun day outdoors before it was time to get back down to business. The whole park is gorgeous, being a weekday, we practically had the park to ourselves. We plan on returning in the spring.

I wanted to share some of my pics... hope you enjoy.

There were quite a few of them out, I counted 15, but have read reports that there are about 30 total.

I snapped this one just as it was about to take off:

Can anyone please tell me what this is?:

I am partial to the Downy's. This guy hung out with us for several minutes:

The visitor center has a bunch of feeders up & they were hopping!

My first nuthatch! There were a bunch of them. Very neat birds, fun to watch!:

The adorable Titmouse & I am smitten! I have always wanted to see one!

Can someone please help with an ID for the red bird in the background? It's a little too big to be a house finch, no?:

Red-Bellied Woodpecker! She was quite the poser:

I also found a male nearby:

We also saw a hawk with lunch:

There were also a ton of Canadian Geese:

On our way back we went about 10 miles out of our way to stop at the historical site of Lincoln's very first debate speech when he was running for the senate. We had never been there, and the first thing I thought was "how appropriate after yesterday's monumental day". A statue of both Lincoln & Douglas are on the exact stop that they stood & debated in front of a crowd of 10,000 people (per the markers):

ETA: Oh! I forgot to mention that during the cold snap, and by cold snap I mean actually temps were -15, I had a Hairy woodpecker visit the nutty feeder. I caught a glimpse from the window & saw that he was a lot bigger than the downy (beak was longer too), which was very evident as he flew past the window over the house. I snapped a pic, but it's blurry. I have not seen him since.
